Research Assignment #4
Your fourth speech is a research-based persuasive speech. Since your primary goal will be
to convince your audience to take a specific action your research burden is higher. Your
research is due via email on the date listed on your course schedule. Send me an email
detailing the supports you will use in the below categories. Each answer should begin
with your source citation. Your source citations should include the author, date, title,
source (name of book, magazine, pamphet, documentary, website, etc..) and publisher (or,
in the case of www, URL). Answer each category with full sentences that resemble the
words you might use when you give the speech in class.
Two factual illustrations 
A factual illustration is a true, detailed story. 
Two specific instances that prove each factual illustration (total of four) 
These are true stories that are not fully developed. These illustrations provide proof
that your factual illustration is not an isolated case.
Two statistics 
Statistics are not merely numbers. Statistics are numerical comparisons. Your use of
statistics should help your audience to better understand your topic. Use the memory aids
we discussed in class to help your audience comprehend the statistics.
Two testimonies 
A testimony is a direct quotation from an established authority. You should state the
expert's qualifications.
Two analogies 
Use each analogy to clarify a major idea in your speech. An analogy is a comparison
between something more-well-known to your audience and something less-well-known.
