Introduction
I. How many times have you been watching a professional game and you've heard the
announcers say, Oh, he just signed a twenty four million-dollar contract... 
II. How many times have you heard the team you love, end up in finical trouble? 
III. Has the team you love to watch had to move cities? 
IV. Have you heard that your team got sold to another person? 
V. Chances are you have heard some of these things.
Body
I. In today's money hungry world, it's hard to understand why a team that can afford to
pay a player twenty four million dollars and yet have to change stadiums or cities.
A. The reason for a lot of this because everything is rising in price. 
B. According to CNN, the average baseball player averages around two million dollars a
season in the Major League Baseball. 
C. In the NBA, the average players make about 3.5 million a season. 
D. In the NHL, the average player makes approximately 1.3 million a season. 
E. In the NFL, the average player makes a little over one million dollars a season. 
II. Let me put this in perspective for you. 
A. My dad makes sixty thousand dollars a year. 
B. It would take my dad about twenty years to earn what a NHL player makes in one year or
what a NFL player makes one year. 
C. Tell me that's not a lot of money. You can't. 
III. According to Sports Illustrated, the average salary in MLB has doubled in the past
ten years. 
A. Now why should you care about all of this? 
B. Well these salary increases are great for the players, but it's bad for us as
consumers and spectators. 
C. You may not care but you should. 
D. First if you like Nike, or Reebok, or ADIDAS, or even KSWISS when you buy these
products you're not only paying for shoes or clothes you're paying for whoever endorsed
them also. 
E. Nike for example has nearly every product of theirs endorsed by a sports athlete of
some sort according to their webpage. 
F. Besides sports apparel it also effects the cost of tickets, the more the players earn
the more expensive the tickets are. 
G. How about cable? If a station buys the rights to the NBA Finals, they pay a large sum
of money to broadcast the games. 
H. In turn the company turns around and makes watching TV more expensive for you. 
IV. Managers and owners of teams are all about one thing and that's making money. 
A. If they can sell rights to their games, they make money, which in turn can pay part of
the player's salary.
