THOU SHALL NOT: HYPOCRISY IN THE CHURCHAs we grow up, we have instilled in us certain morals and values. We attend church weekly, and find trust and peace in our minister. We try to mold ourselves after him, reading the Bible, following the passages. But what are we to do when the Reverend makes a mistake, when he breaks the law? Do we still consider him a man of God? This past election day that is exactly what happened. The renown Reverend Dimmsdale past away after confessing to be the lover of the notorious adulteress, Hester Prynne. For seven years, the identity of her lover has been concealed. How ironic, for her partner who committed this horrendous crime, was our own beloved minister! A woman, who was persecuted and ridiculed for seven years of her life, while her lover praised and preached of Goda??s Will! What does this say about Bostona??s distinguished congregation? If the towna??s own minister is allowed to have an affair, and conceal it for 7 years, what does that say about loyalty? If a woman who raises her child alone, while her lover acts nonchalantly, what does that say about honor? What does this say about us? Rev. Dimmsdale, let him rest in peace, but his deeds, are far from forgotten. Bibliography N/A |
